March 22, 1954 Vieques, P.R. My Darling Wanda, Received three of your letters tonite - Wanda I miss you so much it actually hurts to get your letters, but it would hurt worse if I didn't hear from you. Then on top of wanting you and missing you I get all hot and bothered when I read some of them. That thing got as hard as armor plating tonite and only you can soften it up. I can hardly wait until we can be together again - it will be heaven - like you say we not go all the way but will sure play to beat the devil. I can see my khaki trousers - after I grab you the first time - well it will wash out. Wand this will be kinda short as it's a little late. We fired 50 cal machine guns today. Worked on our tanks this afternoon then tonite I had to be bad. The boys have been working hard but were doing a lot of bitching - I don't like that. So after chow I took them back to the tank park and worked them until 8:30. That's the only way to get a good platoon - get them so pissed off they hate themselves. Believe it or not but a guy that is bitching all the time is a better worker than one that says nothing. Anyway they're gonna catch hell until Thursday nite. We get up in the morning at 5:30 and leave for a problem at 6:00, it will be like that until Thursday nite. So between now and Thursday I'll find out what kind of boys I have. They'll come through alright. After working 12 hours today I gave them some drill at 9:30 and they were on the ball. Wanda I'll answer your letters tomorrow nite. I've got to get some sleep or I'll be crapping out. I got the money order today - I'll send it and some more next pay day. Darling remember, I love you and need you more than ever.
